They say a picture paints a thousand words, so I thought I’d open with the image above. I hope it tells the tale.
When it comes to competitions, I’ve never really been too enthused about entering them. Pretty much like the National Lottery, I’ve felt the odds weren’t worth it. And I’ve never entered anything I’ve written into a competition before. But this felt the right time, and Borderline felt like the right book.
The announcement of the shortlist came on Friday, and it’s fair to say that I was pretty excited about it. Still am. Not that I expect to win. There’s some very stiff competition here. But to make it to a shortlist of four is a win in itself, isn’t it? Unless there were only five entries. I’ll try not to dwell on that!
The winner will be announced at an awards presentation at the end of the Sykehouse Film and Writers’ Festival on 17th May, just under four weeks away. I’ll be at the Festival anyway because I’m taking part in one of the panels there, but this is just going to add an extra layer of interest and excitement for the weekend.
