Well, it’s the beginning of September, the summer is almost over (though what kind of summer we’ve had warrants a whole other post), but there’s still a chance to spend a day at the seaside and do something bookish at the same time.
Living in Nottinghamshire, the sea isn’t exactly on my doorstep, but an opportunity has come up for me to spend this coming Saturday in the lovely Lincolnshire seaside village of Sutton on Sea. The Seaview Colonnade is a new venue which seems to be very busy already, with a wide range of events on.
The next event will be a Mini Authors Day. As far as I can make out, it isn’t for authors who write about Minis. Nor is it for particularly small authors – though I doubt they’ll be excluded. Instead it is made up of a series of author talks as well as (depending on which post you read) an authors market – which suggests we’re being sold off like cattle – or a mini literature market.
I’ll be there most of the day, and will be giving a talk entitled What Makes a Great Crime Novel.
So, if you fancy a day by the sea (the forecast is promising) with the opportunity to either buy an author or a very small book, and/or attend a talk or two (I’m on at 10:30am, so that still leaves most of the day to play with), this could be the place to be. There’s no need to book. Just drop by.
