About ten days ago, I put a post up asking for feedback on possible blurbs for my forthcoming release, Renegade. To be fair, I did ask in a variety of places and got an even bigger response than I did last year when I put out a similar request for Borderline. The feedback was really positive, especially as it quickly narrowed down the field from six options to two.
What I found particularly helpful was the number of people who didn’t just offer an opinion in terms of which one they liked, but also gave their reasons. There were even some comments on the wording of specific lines, and that made me look at them again and tweak them to make them better.
It was always a possibility that I’d end up using lines from more than one of the options I’d listed – a kind of mix and match. One of the lines I really liked wasn’t included in the shortlist of two, but several people also said it had struck a chord with them too, so I did look at trying to get it to fit. I won’t bore you with more on that here, though you’re welcome to check the post that listed them all and see for yourself. I used the line at the end of options 1 and 2 (and a variation of it in option 6) – none of which picked up more than a couple of votes. Sadly, I couldn’t find a way of getting that line into either of the shortlisted ones without screwing up the rest of the blurb. So for those of you who liked the ‘livestock’ line, I apologise – I wanted it in there too.
Still, we got a winner (albeit with some very minor tweaks).
